Okay, this was quite crazy. I was still unpacking my bag on Sunday morning 11:00am, and I just received a phone call from a good friend of mine. He told me to fly to FL with a friend to watch the SpaceX launch, I said okay!
We flew a total of 6hours. 3hours from Atlanta to FL, (I forgot the airport that we landed) and 3 hours back. Beau flew the plane and I can confidently say that he is a good pilot. He calmly landed in heavy wind and the landings were quite smooth.
Sam picked us up from the airport and we rushed to a good watching spot to watch the launch. After 2 minutes from stopping the car the rocket took off, sadly I was a little unprepared. It was an amazing sight, and fascinating. The rocket was so powerful that we felt the shock wave from miles away, it was super bright.
Also SpaceX reuses the initial stage of the rocket so one part of the rocket comes back after the launch. The part that came back had sonic booms and we thought it exploded when it hit the ground, but apparently it was a sonic boom.
After watching the launch we went back to the airport, enjoyed our sandwiches, talked some business and then we took off with the plane to head back to ATL! I slept a little during the return flight. There was also some icing present on our way back, but we didn’t have any problems with that.
After this trip I also wanted to get a pilot license (PPL I guess) however I wonder If I have enough time for that this semester… Maybe I can start during summer!
